It included crypts and niches, was constructed of concrete for strength and included a beautiful custom stained-glass window made in Manheim, Germany. Several additions have been added over the years, including more stained-glass windows and statuary art from around the world. In the early 1970s, our first mausoleum, the Chapel of Devotion, opened in the Chapel Garden and an additional 2 mausoleums, buildings A and B, were erected in the upper southwest corner of the property. Up to 20 copies of the Report of Death, issued at the time of death, will be provided by the embassy or consulate free of charge. If additional copies are needed in the future, they can be obtained for a fee from the Department of State. Per German regulations, embalming should not be performed for persons who die of a quarantinable communicable disease, including COVID-19. As the CDC guidelines only permit the return of embalmed remains in a hermetically sealed casket,transportation of remains of COVID-19 deceased is not permitted at this time.

Valhalla Memory Gardens continued to grow and expand with the building of more mausoleums, the Chapel of Peace, the Chapel of Love, Chapel of Love Court and buildings C, D and E. Our specialized gardens included the Garden of Valor, the Masonic Garden and religious gardens such as Everlasting Life, Gethsemane, Good Shepherd, Last Supper, Crosses and Serenity. Later, they developed Faith Memorial Park located in Madison, Alabama. Our handsome Georgian-style Valhalla Funeral Home is located on the grounds of Valhalla Memory Gardens. Thoughtfully designed with your comfort in mind, our 20,000-square-foot funeral home features 4 spacious staterooms, a chapel with seating for approximately 300 guests and a private family area.

The cemetery, which was originally known as Valhalla Burial Park, was the 1st memorial lawn burial park in southwestern Illinois. Development was made up of themed garden sections with spacious lots and walkways surrounded by various trees, bushes and flowers. Memorials were custom, decorative, flat bronze on concrete foundations to maintain a park-like setting. The teams at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home and Valhalla Gardens of Memory remain active in the St. Clair County community. Each year, we host a silent Memorial Day service, featuring our Avenue of Flags that has over 1,500 flag displays and pays tribute to our veterans and military families. The founders of Valhalla Funeral Home and Valhalla Memory Gardens, Ralph and Ruby Stubblefield, were tobacco farmers from Middle Tennessee.
